Interested applicants must have the following:
‘investigative journalism, story telling, and research skills’—and a ‘demonstrated experience in solutions-oriented reporting’;
a West African country residencythree years journalism experience (even though ‘exceptional early-career applicants’ would also be considered)
an ‘active affiliation with a radio, television, or digital media outlet’—which must write a ‘letter of commitment’ in behalf of the applicant’
and finally, the applicant, if selected, must be ready ‘to adhere to the entire programme, encompassing mandatory workshop, mentorship sessions, and deadlines for story production.’
Can freelancers apply? The Google Form notes the following: ‘Freelancers can also apply but must back their application with a letter of support from a reputable platform willing to publish/broadcast their stories).’
Warning: ‘This opportunity is only open to journalists new to the Solutions Journalism Africa Initiative (SJAI).’
