November 19, 2025: ‘Biometrics in Africa’, Atlantic Council’s free online meeting

The so-called Democracy + Tech Initiative at the US-based Atlantic Council will host an online conversation tomorrow (November 19, 2025) titled ‘Biometrics in Africa’. The meeting will start at 9:00 AM (ET)—which is 6 PM MUT; 7:30 PM IST; 4 PM SAST; and 3 PM WAT.

As many as seven speakers are expected to share the event platform, which is likely to remain open for comments and questions from registered participants. The speakers promised by the Council are as follows: Iria Puyosa, Aïcha Thiendella Fall, Sani Suleiman, Grace Mutung’u, Thobekile Matimbe, Yasah Musa, and Juliet Nanfuka.

Out of these speakers, Puyosa and Fall are with the Atlantic Council; Suleiman and Matimbe are with the Nigeria-based Paradigm Initiative; Mutung’u is with the South Africa-based Research ICT Africa; Musa is with the Kenya-based Nubian Rights Forum; and Nanfuka is with the Uganda-based Collaboration on International ICT Policy in East and Southern Africa (CIPESA).

The event will also see the release of a report on how biometric systems have been affecting life in Africa. This report was supported by the Embassy of Denmark in the United States and Paradigm Initiative, according to the Atlantic Council’s note on its website; this note, however, does not specify the nature of the support.
