Amnesty International: Israel’s genocide of Palestinians has continued since the October 2025 ceasefire

by Thoughtfox staff

‘At least 327 people, including 136 children, have been killed in Israeli attacks since the ceasefire was announced on 9 October’, according to Amnesty International’s latest press release (dated November 27, 2025). The UK-based human rights organisation has also declared the above situation to be a continuation of Israel’s genocide of the Palestinians, which it had originally called out in December 2024.

The press release notes ‘a reduction in scale of attacks and some limited improvements’ in Israel’s conduct and posture in Palestine; however, it finds these positive developments to constitute ‘no meaningful change in the conditions Israel is inflicting on Palestinians in Gaza and no evidence to indicate that Israel’s intent has changed.’

Describing the prevalence of diseases, starvation, ‘unlawful blockage and months of total siege earlier this year’ across Palestine—aside from chronic challenges related to ‘water, shelter, clothing’ and ‘sanitation’ facing the residents—the press release summarised the situation as ‘circumstances that would lead to a slow death of Palestinians’.

Callamard’s statements

The press release includes statements from Agnès Callamard, the organisation’s Secretary General, appealing to global powers to not ease the pressure on Israel regarding the ceasefire and accountability. She also stresses the need for pressuring Israel to let outside observers—including journalists and aid workers—enter the occupied areas and investigate, report on the injustices that have been perpetrated on Palestine’s residents over the course of past many years.

In her statements, Callamard also reminds people of Israel’s refusal to obey several orders issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which had concluded in January 2024 ‘that Palestinians’ rights under the Genocide Convention, namely their survival were plausibly at risk.’

In her statements cited in the press release, Callamard reiterates her long-standing appeals to fully restore medical and other humanitarian supplies to the Palestinians, who have also been prevented from farming their lands or accessing the sea. She also fervently appeales to ‘world leaders’ to ‘halt all arms transfers to Israel until Israel’s crimes under international law cease.’

The backdrop of Thanksgiving

It is notable that Amnesty International’s press release coincides with Thanksgiving—a major food-and-family-oriented festival in the United States, Israel’s paramount supporter. While this timing highlights the stark contrast between the Palestinian situation and that of American families, it may also reduce the likelihood that the press release will reach as many Americans as it might have a few days earlier or later, once the festivities have ended.
