December 14, 2025: Accra Atheists’ free online event with Dr. Leo Igwe

by Piyush Mathur

Accra Atheists, a non-governmental, non-profit network of Ghanians and internationals, will host Dr. Leo Igwe on December 14, 2025, for an online event via Google Meets. This event is the last episode of 2025 for the network’s ‘Reason Rising Monthly Series’.

Titled ‘From the seminary to atheism and advocacy against witch hunting’, the event would see Dr. Igwe reminisce how and why he stepped out of his work as a Christian pastor in Nigeria and into activism for critical thinking, humanism, and against witch hunts. Dr. Igwe is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Advocacy for Alleged Witches (AfAW); Thoughtfox carried an interview with him on July 15, 2024 that can be accessed here.

The event will start on December 14 at 5 PM UTC, and can be accessed via this link: https://meet.google.com/qmv-oxzg-xws

The event’s poster, displayed below, can also be scanned for the meeting’s Quick Response (QR) code using a smartphone.

Dr. Igwe’s Facebook account

It is important to note that since August 21, 2025, Dr. Igwe’s Facebook account has remained blocked, owing to Meta Platforms, Inc.’s mindless action. It appears that Meta Platforms has opted to misinterpret and silence Dr. Igwe’s anti-witch hunt advocacy and frank uploads of video footages showing violent abuses perpetrated against very young children in Nigeria by a pastor.

Dr. Igwe’s account was also blocked previously in January 2025 but restored following another online petition that had met success. A new online petition addressed to Meta’s owner, Marc Zuckerberg (and other top executives) to restore Dr. Igwe’s Facebook account has been in place since mid-October. This petition can be accessed, signed on to, via this link:

A note on Accra Atheists

Accra Atheists focusses on showing alternatives to the religious framework and evidence-free beliefs that end up being tyrannical and exploitative. This network was co-founded in 2022 by Roslyn Mould, Kojo Tetteh Tetteh and about 20 other people, per a report by the US-based Freedom from Religion Foundation, Inc. (FfRF).

In early February 2025, Accra Atheists made a big splash in online circles and the global media when—with the support of the FfRF—it managed to erect in Ghana’s capital a huge billboard supporting the cause of the irreligious.

Last words

It should be noted here that religion-inspired witch hunts are not uncommon in many African countries; such violent crimes, however, also occur, though less frequently, in other parts of the world—owing to false beliefs in supernaturalism, whether religion-inspired or not.
