US-based mental-health reporters: Oct. 20-Nov. 17, 2025 is the application period for HEAL fellowships

On October 20, 2025, US-based mental-health reporters could begin to apply for HEAL Fellowships 2025, offered by the New York City-based nonprofit non-governmental organisation Solutions Journalism Network (SJN).

The application window for these 12-month long fellowships will close November 17th, 11:59 pm ET.

For the current round, SJN has proposed slots for 10 fellows whose projects strongly retain an ‘equity component’ and promise to ‘report on and amplify youth mental health solutions’. The application process, estimated to take no more than an hour, requires uploading a 60-second video and answering three questions; the selection will be completed in mid-November. ‘The 2025 - 2026 HEAL Fellows will be selected and onboarded by November 24th’, according to the online application form.

Aside from professional networking support and inputs, these fellowships offer the selected candidates an ‘honorarium of up to $5,000’.
