In collaboration with the International Research Group on Transregional & Emerging Area Studies (ITEAS), the Tokyo-based International Centre for the Study of Separatism (分離主義国際センター) (ICSOS) will organise a seminar titled ‘Separatism, Extremism, and Regional Security: Crossed Perspectives from Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Europe’ on July 10, 2026.
This hybrid event will take place from 16 (4:00 PM) to19 (7:00PM) (Japan Standard Time, JST) at the Tokyo Seminar Studio in Tokyo, Japan. In order to attend this event, be it at the venue or online, one must first register via the following Zoom link:

The event is expected to see opening comments from Kei Nakagawa (Japan) and ICSOS President Shoji Matsumoto (Japan). The guest speakers are expected to be the following: John Edward Phillips (USA), Elwasila Saeed Elamin Mohamed (Sudan), Sapto Priyanto (Indonesia), Mohd Mizan Aslam (Malaysia), Major General Mohamed Bashir Saleh (Libya), Abdoul Sogodogo (Mali), and El Mostafa Rezrazi (Morocco).
These speakers are expected to discuss how ‘separatism, extremism, terrorism, governance, and regional security’ correlate in our times across Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Europe—and how best to address the associated challenges via policy and other means.
(As of now, the Zoom link is showing a time that is 30 minutes later somehow; Thoughtfox has sought clarification from the organisers about this apparent discrepancy.)
