Nov 26, 2025: Free webinar on Africa’s Internet shutdowns

The UK-based Institute of Development Studies (IDS) will organise a free online discussion titled ‘Internet Shutdowns in Africa: Technology, Rights, and Power’ on Nov 26, 2025. The event will start at 16 UTC. (That would be 3 PM Cape Verde; 4 PM UK, Ghana, Senegal, Ivory Coast; 5 PM Nigeria, Algeria, Morocco, Angola; 6 PM South Africa, Egypt, Zambia, Malawi; 7 PM Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Somalia; 8 PM Mauritius & Seychelles; and 9:30 PM IST.)

Chaired by Bryan Glick, Editor in Chief at the UK-based Computer Weekly, the event will host Tony Roberts, Felicia Anthonio, Juliet Nanfuka, and Yohannes Ayalew as the speakers. Roberts is a Research Fellow at IDS; Anthonio is the Global Campaign Manager at the US-based Access Now; Nanfuka is the Research and Communications Officer at the Uganda-based Collaboration on International ICT Policy for East and Southern Africa (CIPESA); and Ayalew is a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem’s Faculty of Law.
