As part of its new Publix Tech-Journalism-Fellowship, the German non-profit, non-governmental organisation Publix will host a conference mid-December titled ‘Reporting the Machines—Journalism and the Ethics of AI’.

The event will start at 2 PM (Central European Standard Time) and end at 7 PM on December 11, a Thursday.

The doors to the conference’s venue will open at 1:30 PM; and the venue is as follows:

Publix – House for Journalism and the Public Hermannstr. 90, 12051 Berlin

Invited speakers

The invited speakers—a mix of academics, creatives, reporters, policy makers/researchers—are as follows:

Annette Zimmermann, Felix Kartte, Lisa Hegemann, Sidney Fussell, Aimee van Wynsberghe, Wiebke Loosen, and Simon Berlin

The organisation’s website notes that the conference is supported by the Beauftragter der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien, and has 1014 Germany and the MIZ Babelsberg as its cooperators. (The fellowship has already selected its first cohort of 5 fellows for 2026.)

Best practices showcasing

As part of its ‘best practices’ showcasing component, the conference also promises to include representations from HelloBetter, Tactical Tech, and The Pearl.

HelloBetter is a Hamburg-based digital mental health (limited-liability) for-profit; it is registered as GET.ON Institut für Online Gesundheitstrainings GmbH); Tactical Tech is a Berlin-based non-profit that explores socio-political-cultural issues related to technological developments. The Pearl is an AI-based web application that interactively provides emotionally enriching inputs based upon the user’s voice; the platform focusses on the so-called ‘Emotional Intelligence’ (EI) component, and is inspired by Carl Jung’s theory of psychology.

Full conference details and other facts

The conference’s full programme, including its registration button, can be accessed via this URL:

It is important to note that while the registration is free, it is not instantaneous; the digital request for registering as an audience will be screened before it is approved.

Located in the Neukölln district of Berlin, Publix explores the role of journalism in the fast unfolding world of contemporary technologies and social media saturation.

On its contact page, Publix does not currently display its email address, which is found on a different page showing its registration details: https://www.publix.de/en/imprint
