Safe AI Foundation USA sets January 31, 2027, deadline for fellowship applications

by Piyush Mathur

One can directly apply to be a fellow of the California-based Safe AI Foundation USA by requesting a form from the foundation and submitting it on or before January 31, 2027.

There are no country restrictions on who can submit an application, and one is free to apply again in response to the next call if one fails to get elected in this round.

The foundation is seeking fellowship applications from the corporate sector, government, research institutions, and universities—with the application categories being AI Governance & Policy; AI Computer Science, Safety, and Infrastructure Engineering; and any other relevant fields. There are no fees involved in this process, and the results will be announced in May 2027. Those elected will be fellows for life.

The 2-page application form will have to be requested from this email address: contact@safeaifoundation.com

The applicant will not need to provide any reference letters—but only an evidence-based narration of his or her contribution to the Artificial Intelligence (AI) sector, aside from some basic personal details.

The form will have to submitted to this email address: fellows@safeaifoundation.com

Successful candidates will be certified to join a network of ‘Safe AI Foundation Fellows’, and would be able to ‘use the initials SAIFF or FSAIF or SAIF Fellow to symbolize their grade’, per the foundation’s website.

Incorporated in California as a Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation (California Secretary of State document number 6576003) on February 8, 2025, the Safe AI Foundation USA is a federally recognised tax-exempt organisation organisation under section 501(c) of the US Internal Revenue Code. The foundation identifies its public charity classification as sections 509(a)(1) and 170(b)(1)(A)(vi).
