‘Weaponized Citizenship and Statelessness’ academic workshop: November 1, 2026 submission deadline

In collaboration with the George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs’ Project on Middle East Political Science (POMEPS), Boston University’s Pardee School of Global Studies (PSGS) will host a workshop in March 2027 on how various governments have historically and lately turned ‘citizenship’ into a weapon of unjustifiable discrimination.

Interlinking this ‘weaponised citizenship’ with the production or aggravation of statelessness and related forms of exclusion and exploitation, the workshop invites research-based papers exploring this theme, in its various manifestations, in reference to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

Themed ‘Weaponized Citizenship and Statelessness’, the event is officially named POMEPS & MENA Initiative Workshop.

The event will take place on March 26, 2027, at PSGS, in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Researchers are requested to submit their abstracts of no more than 500 words via the following link on or before November 01, 2026, for prospective inclusion in the workshop:

Selected abstracts will be expected to be developed into papers around 3000 words, ‘drafted in line with the forthcoming POMEPS policy governing acceptable use of Generative AI.’ After revisions based upon the workshop’s feedback, selected papers will find a place in an edited issue of POMEPS Studies.
